Lieutenant Arl Carver

Lieutenant Carver is an officer aboard the bulk trader GSV Spittein Paulisch, and is in old friend of Teddy Valenti's. He is a stocky man, lacking neither the flair nor the ruthlessness to advance beyond his current station in the Guild. This suits Carver just fine, given what he has so far witnessed of the stresses of command and responsibility in the Charioteers. He assisted Teddy in gaining passage, along with Teddy's crew and Teddy's own vessel, to Cadiz via Malignatius, prior to the Zuviev Reunion.

Brother-Captain Justinian

Vance Justinian is the commanding officer of the Brother Battle presence at the Stigmata Gate, with the CSV Righteous Hammer as his flagship. He is a veteran of the Symbiot Wars, having fought their inhuman taint planet-side on Stigmata, as well as in boarding actions in orbit and at the Gate itself. He is a powerfully built, though softly spoken man, born into a minor house on Byzantium Secundus.

Baroness Maya Zuviev Decados

A more direct personality than her husband. The Baroness is taller than him (and most other men) and as beautiful as breeding, training and technology can allow. She is not quite his intellectual equal but she is not merely a trophy wife either: one of her hobbies is verbal duelling. Potentates and savants often leave her entertainments with the impression they’ve been mugged. She is well-versed in the biological sciences and was instrumental in perfecting her children according to her understanding of the Zuviev Apotheosis.

Baron Yevgeny Zuviev Decados

A person first meeting the Baron would be left with the impression that he would rather be attending to his beetle collection, or perhaps a selchaka habit, than politics, intrigue or violence. Although classically handsome the Baron is not a forceful personality. He moves languidly. He drawls. He makes obscure jokes and smiles wryly when no one else gets them. He refers to his extensive library through erudite non-sequiturs.

Indeed, the casual acquaintance might regard the Baron’s holdings as ripe for secession and begin to feel mingling contempt and pity for his softly unfocused self.

And yet.

The Baron directs a facility of the Genetech Cartel, the Zuviev Institute.

The Baron commands a small force of troops, the Death Dolls, that are loyal to him unto death, and in quality and equipment have been favourably compared to Prince Hiram’s Kossaks.

The Baron returned from a long quest among stars that have remained unlisted, even unnamed.

Zuviev has been remarkably free of serious civil unrest for over twenty years.

Zuviev has been free of serious attention from the Inquisition despite the almost casual secrecy surrounding some of the Zuviev Institute’s bioengineering product.

Zuviev has not been plundered by more forceful branches of the sprawling Decados family.

The Baron has been married to his sister Maya for over twenty years without going insane.

Captain Simon Rothwell

A humourless and long-suffering Charioteer pilot who keeps getting stuck with the PCs. He hates the company, hates the ship, and loathes having to time-share a bunk with Teddy. He does like the PC's vodka, though.

Bishop Nitin Dhaval

The good Bishop is the Church's representative in Sir Lexine Hawkwood's entourage. He is a handsome young man, especially so to have come so far in the Church, but he has taken the Emperor's own Confession, and was appointed as one of Byzantium Secundus' Bishops by the Patriarch himself.

Bishop Dhaval's position is a tough one, however. As an Imperial Cohort, he must adhere to Emperor Alexius' creed; as a member of the Church of the Celestial Sun, he must follow the Patriarch's (and the greater Orthodoxy's) teachings that one must not travel from one's own world and star. How, then, can Dhaval preach Alexius' Grand Crusade?

Chief Pol Sorley

Pol Sorley is a middle aged woman acompanying Sir Lexine Hawkwood on her travels. She is short, solidly built, and might be turning a little to fat; but she is still a fully-paid up member of The Muster, and bears the scars, arms and armour to prove it.

She is an Imperial Cohort, and her task in Sir Lexine's entourage is to not only serve as a bodyguard of sorts, but to raise support for the Emperor's Crusade amongst the Guild-folk she and Sir Lexine meet on their travels.

Sir Lexine Kimberleigh Hawkwood

A young Questing Knight. Sir Lexine is one of the Heralds of the Grand Crusade, taking Emperor Alexius I call to arms to all the corners of the Known Worlds. She is slim, but with an athlete's physique. She travels with Chief Pol Sorley (a Chainer) and Bishop Nitin Dhaval.

Sir Lexine was knocked nearly unconscious by a single blow from Brother James, in return for her attempt to help rescue he and his companions from a sabotaged starship.

Baron Mikhail Kruschev Decados

One of the great fencing masters of the Known Worlds, The Baron Kruschev resides on Istakhr. He runs a very well-attended (and expensive) Fencing Academy not far from the Grand Bazaar; young nobles from all the Houses Major come to learn from his vast experience.

He is also unique for having forsaken his allegiance to the House.

Yeoman Ungo

A remarkably cultured and polite Vorox who lives on board Barter. He acts as a combination guide and bodyguard to visitors to the vast collection of shipping; he charges a fair price, and few know Barter better than he.

Commander Jack Darglebargle Swallow

An extremely flamboyant Charioteer. Brightly coloured, well-wigged, and possessed of dubious taste in makeup and perfume. He captained the Embrace from Malignatius to Istakhr.

He was a member of the Killroys, the Charioteer's secret service. He was murdered on Istakhr by Fraka Decados.

Baron Gustav Alexei Gurov Decados

A more-than-usually odd Decados noble (are any of them normal?). He lives in one of the Bad Air quarters of Barter.

Sophiya Valenti

Teddy's mum, a member of the Courtesans Guild. She is distantly descended from one of the Li Halan vassal houses of Cadavus.

She's currently on Leagueheim recovering from a very nasty illness. She would probably be unimpressed by Teddy's current choice of friends.

Boss Samho Hong

A Charioteer of dubious honour. She was involved in the death of the Ill-Conceived Embrace's original captain. She got her head blown off by a sniper who was presumably in the employ of the Scravers.
